Earning board certification is a distinguished achievement held by fewer than half of all practicing orthodontists, reflecting advanced expertise and commitment to excellence in orthodontic care.

Dr. Imelda Crews holds board certification from the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), a prestigious distinction earned by fewer than half of practicing orthodontists. As part of this select group, Dr. Crews has committed to advancing her expertise, embracing continuous education, and maintaining the highest standards of care in the field of orthodontics.

Board certification through the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is a voluntary credential, meaning orthodontists who pursue it go above and beyond standard requirements. Achieving this certification demonstrates a dedication to lifelong learning and a commitment to providing the highest quality orthodontic care.
The path to ABO board certification includes three main stages:
DENTIST: Complete an undergraduate program, graduate from dental school (3–4 years), and successfully pass all required licensing examinations.
ORTHODONTIST: Complete an accredited orthodontic residency program (2–3 years) to specialize in diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities.
BOARD-CERTIFIED ORTHODONTIST: Successfully complete the ABO written examination and clinical examination. Certification must be renewed every 10 years to ensure continued excellence in practice.
The ABO is the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA) and is affiliated with the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).
A board-certified orthodontist has invested additional time and effort to master the most complex aspects of orthodontic treatment and provide the highest standard of care. Orthodontics is about much more than straightening teeth — it’s about creating healthy, functional bites and confident smiles.
Dr. Imelda Crews has earned her respected board-certified status through dedication, education, and passion for helping patients achieve their healthiest smiles.
Your smile is one of your most valuable features — trust it to a doctor who is committed to giving you the best care possible.
